Tim StocktonIU Housing Operations is a 260+ employee group responsible for the care, cleaning, maintenance, and renovation of campus residence halls and apartments.

More than 12K students live in 21 units situated in four on-campus neighborhoods, plus the Hillcrest apartments for Collins juniors and seniors, and Mason Hall, situated between the Central and Southeast Neighborhoods. Combined, campus housing units comprise nearly 5 million square feet.

  • The Environmental Operations division of Campus Auxiliaries Housing Operations maintains the cleanliness of residential campus housing year-round, including weekend operations. This team takes great pride in preparing the campus for conferences and each new semester and in getting to know the students whose spaces they are cleaning.
  • The Maintenance Operations division includes interior design and sewing, upholsterers, locksmiths (and a separate team for electric lock access), painters, electricians, plumbers, masons, plasterers, and maintenance personnel.

Throughout the academic year, the Campus Auxiliaries Housing Operations team changes out 7,860 student air filters four times a year. In total, this employee group cleans and maintains:

  • 2,668 showers
  • 1,511 tubs
  • 1,335 sinks
  • 60 elevators

Through an online maintenance form on the Student Life-managed IU Housing website, students can submit forms to report maintenance issues, from a malfunctioning door lock to light bulb replacement to furniture repair.
